HIMGA Board Meeting August 11, 2010

Meeting called to order at 7am by President Dick Smith.

Present were Dick Smith, Bob Parks, Ron Blasucci, Clint Miller, Gerry Potter, Dave DeSchane, Don Shafer, John Inman, Lyn Westling and Barry Storie.

Minutes from last meeting were read and approved as written.

Treasurer’s report – Gerry Potter presented current year budget to-date. Budgeted items and actual expenses are in line so far.

Motion made and seconded to accept current budget. Motion passed.

 Barry Storie –

- Discussed changing the current back nine to the front nine and the   front to the back. Only real added expense will be for re painting the individual hole signs. HIMGA board voted to support this change. Golf Council will consider this issue. The Golf Council does not and cannot make final decisions on these type of changes. They can only create and recommend ideas.

- Much discussion about whether to make the left side of hole 17 out of bounds or a lateral. No real consensus from the board. Golf Council will consider.

- Barry mentioned that the only capital improvement proposed for next year is the covering of the deck in back of the clubhouse. HISID will be asked if they wish to match money raised through fund raisers for the deck.

- Fayetteville golf course is holding a Pro-Am on August 30th and Barry has reserved a 4 some for us. He’s suggesting that 2 members of HIMGA and 1 member of HILGA be invited. Barry will be the pro and 4th player. Cost is $100 per person. Barry needs to know if we want to participate. John Inman will contact some HIMGA members to see if they want to participate, Carl Trahan was mentioned.

Mark Mowrey joined the meeting to discuss problems with the course. Mark has lost some of his staff due to illness and resignation so some of the routine maintenance of the course has been delayed. Mark mentioned that heat and moisture is causing problems with some of the greens and that the pump on the back nine is out of order so they’re using a fire hose to water.

 Clint Miller –

10 sympathy cards have been sent out so far this year.

Clint was reimbursed $40 for flowers for Lyn Westling’s mother in law.

 Dave DeSchane –

4 new signs made up for new people maintaining tee boxes. They are Wally and Joanie Kratzer, Jerry and Jeanie Horning, Phil West and Randall and Delain Cavanah.

Dave was reimbursed $34.08 for signs.

 John, Don and Lyn –

John will order 1,000 new score cards and mentioned we’re under budget for trophies.

Need another traveling trophy to replace one given to John Rauber. Cost is about $60.

John will replace the lost 2008 Glen Beatty plaque tag. He is also bringing the plaque up to date with  2009 and 2010 tags.

John added wording for match play championship and HIMGA club championship regarding how to handle ties. See Definition of HIMGA Weekly and Annual events 2010 Season.

 New Business –

Motion made and passed to reimburse Dick Smith $63.11 for the cooler repairs.

Gerry brought up the fact that other people are using our coolers for non HIMGA events. Board agreed to allow this to continue.

Cassville Men’s Club purchased the traveling trophy for the “Cassville/Holiday Island Men’s Club Challenge”. John Inman will purchase the plaque for the trophy and have it engraved.

New course markings – Long discussion about the pros and cons of playing the course as marked or use “HIMGA” rules.

Motion made and passed to play the course as marked beginning August 17, 2010.

Discussed changing 9 hole monthly games to 3 scrambles and 1 handicap game. Board has no problem with this concept.

Dick asked Don, Ron and Gerry as nominating committee for election for new 18 hole board members and 9 hole members. Since there are no new 9 hole members Ron will help Gerry and Don with the nominations for the 3 18 hole board openings.  Dick Smith, John Inman and Lyn Westling will be leaving the board. Discussed how to handle election process. Need nominations of candidates by 9-15-10. Will pass out ballots on 9-21-10, 9-28-10 and 10-5-10.

Next board meeting will be on 9-15-10 at 8am.
