2012 Season - Definition of HIMGA Weekly and Annual Events

WEEKLY EVENTS

  1. 4-Man Scramble: Balanced team foursomes consisting of an A, B, C and D player. Teams are computer selected to balance combined handicaps with all other teams. All players hit tee shot and subsequent shots through the green; better ball position is chosen for each shot until ball is holed out.  Team score is recorded on scorecard.  For teams with a blind draw;  On the starting hole the “A” player will take the extra shot through conclusion of the hole; for the next hole, the “B” player will take the shots; for the next hole, the “C” player will take the shots.  Subsequent holes should restart this same order.  All golfers play from their normal tee box.  The blind player is always a “D” golfer. (Scores not used for handicap updates)

  1. 2-Man Scramble (flighted): This is a scramble event consisting of balanced twosome teams flighted into A/B and C/D flights. Play as 4-man scramble described above recording each twosomes score. Money is divided equally between the two flights. (Scores not used for handicap updates)

  1. Texas Scramble:  All players hit tee shot.  Player whose ball is selected for play is prohibited from hitting next shot.  Subsequent shots follow procedure until ball reaches the green.  Once ball is on the green all players are allowed to putt. When playing a threesome, a designated player shall hit all 4th shots (tee box through end of hole), including from the fairway.  The designated player shall be alternated on each succeeding hole. (Scores not entered for handicap purposes)

  2. 4-Man Points: Balanced team foursomes consisting of an A, B, C and D player.  Each player plays his own ball as in medal (stroke) play.  Points awarded: Birdie 4, Par 3, Bogey 2, Double Bogey 1.  Triple Bogey or worse 0 points.  All players’ points are totaled and the result is the team score for that hole.  Blind draws (“D” player) are based on selection of a median score based on “D” players from other teams that participated in the event.  (Scores entered for handicap updating)

  3. 2-Man Points, (flighted): This is a points event consisting of two-person team flights of A/B and C/D. Play as in 4-man points above. Money is divided equally between the two flights.  (Scores entered for handicap updating)

  4. Four-Man, 2-Net Best Ball: Balanced team foursomes consisting of an A, B, C and D player.  Teams are computer selected to balance combined handicaps with all other teams.  Each player plays his own ball as in medal (stroke) play.  The two net best scores for a hole are added and become the team score for that hole.  Scorecards will have handicap dots posted for all holes to assist players in determining the two better net scores. (Scores entered for handicap updating)

  5. Two Man, 1-Net Better Ball (flighted):  This is a better ball event consisting of twosome teams flighted into A/B and C/D. Play as in 4-man 2-best ball above except the team score is determined by using the better net score of the twosome for each hole. Money is divided equally between the two flights. (Scores entered for handicap updating)

  6. Four-Man, 2-Best Ball (1 net, 1 gross):  Balanced foursome teams consisting of an A, B, C and D player.  Teams are computer selected to balance combined handicaps with all other teams.  Each player plays his own ball as in medal (stroke) play.  Team score for a given hole is determined by adding the one best net score and the one best gross score.  The combined two scores make up the team score for that hole. (Scores entered for handicap updating)

  7. Individual Low Net (flighted): Straight medal play golf in which there are no teams. Players play own ball through the end of hole.  Count all strokes and enter gross score for each hole.  Player’s handicap is subtracted from total score to arrive at net score for the player.  Event is flighted based on handicaps. The 18-hole league will always be A, B, C and D flights.  The 9-hole league will be flighted based on number of players entered (3 or 4 flights).  Money is divided equally among the flights. (Scores entered for handicap updating)

Annual Events

  1. Match-Play Championship:  Open to the first 32 players that sign up.  Event consists of 18-hole handicapped matches open to all HIMGA members.  Use your chosen HIMGA tee box.  A player is matched against one other player in elimination events.  HIMGA will establish the pairings and set tee times for the first set of matches.  Pairings will be displayed on the Pro Shop lunchroom windows.  Winners will set their own tee times for subsequent matches.  Matches extending through 18 holes without a winner shall continue with sudden death extra holes until a winner is determined.  Sudden death will begin at hole #1, using handicaps, unless directed to use #10 by the Pro Shop attendant.  Check in with the Pro Shop prior to starting extended play.  Elimination matches will continue until the championship match determines the final winner.  A consolation match between the 3rd and 4th place finishers will determine third place.  All rounds are by USGA Match Play and HIMGA Rules.  If you’re not familiar with match play, read-up on it prior to start of tournament. Rules and penalties are different and your opponent will call you on a rules violation!

  2. HIMGA Club Championship:

    1. 18-Hole Players:  This is a two-day medal (stroke) play event played from the “white” tee. This will be a Friday and Saturday morning event as scheduled.

    2. 9-Hole Players.  Same format, but using “gold” tee (Requires minimum of 8 players to hold this event).

    3. The low-gross champion is considered the champion and receives a monetary, commemorative award and a “traveling trophy” (returned to HIMGA at the next year’s event).  The low-net champion receives a monetary and commemorative award as well as 2nd and 3rd place finishers.  Handicaps are set at 80% of the HIMGA league handicap as posted during the week preceding the event.  NOTE: For “gold tee” players, three strokes shall be added to their handicap prior to the 80% rule).  USGA stroke play rules are in effect with the exception of HIMGA’s allowance for “moving ball one score card”.  In the event of a tie, the tournament committee will establish a playoff format.

  3. Shootouts: Shootouts are handicap match play elimination events and divided into separate 9 and 18-hole league categories.  Qualifying events are scheduled in the weeks preceding the shootouts.  Players must sign-up to qualify for this event.  The top ten (10) qualifiers in each league will be selected to compete in this event.  Play will proceed as follows: All ten players tee-off on #1 hole in the rotation established by the HIMGA committee and/or by the event marshal.  Balls are marked with a number (1 thru 10) representing the player’s assigned number.  After all players tee, then normal rules of golf follow, with the farthest from the hole hitting next and so forth.  Once balls are on the green a greens attendant will mark the location with a corresponding numbered marker.  The player whose ball is farthest from the hole will putt first and will continue putting until holed out.  Scorers will keep track of strokes on established scoring sheets. Player with the greatest number of strokes is eliminated and the remaining nine (9) members continue on to the next tee box.  In the event of a tie for elimination on a hole, the marshal will conduct a chip-off or a putt-off.  The person whose ball comes to rest farthest from the hole is eliminated.  The process of player elimination continues through completion of the 8th hole when two players remain.  The final two play for the championship at the 9th hole.  A tie on the 9th hole is resolved same as other holes.  A rules sheet and briefing is provided immediately prior to tee time.
